 Old Westbury Games
We had a great day at the Old Westbury Games. The weather cooperated and we had a sunny day, although a bit warm, but still better than last year when we were rained out. We had a good group of Campbell ’s attending, 17 if I counted right, and not counting those who just stopped by for a visit at the tent. We even had a Campbell participate in the tossing of the caber, Eddie Allen 3rd, who came in 4th. Good going Eddie.
Our tent was visited by a number of Campbells’ and others and our Deputy Commissioner Carl Surface (who set up the tent) was very knowledgeable in answering all the questions. Convenor Sister Lucille, who is now 95 years old, graced us with her presence. New York City Deputy Commissioner George Campbell was also in attendance. All in all a great day

Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Memorial
The New York Caledonian Club was given the great honour of participating in
the Memorial Day event at the Soldier’s and Sailor’s Monument by Dr. George
Chall, New York Caledonian Club board member and chairman of the event.
It was a colourful and moving commemoration. Fourteen veterans’ associations,
organizations and heritage groups laid wreaths at the monument, including the
New York Caledonian Club, who laid a wreath in memory of the 79th New York
Highland Regiment.
It was a pleasure to meet Gretchen Gair Royce, whose great-great grandfather,
Captain Robert Gair, served heroically in the 79th. Also in attendance was
Harry Moshier, descendent of Alexander Fraser, who became the New York
Caledonian Club’s first chief in 1857. This was the first time we had every
met Harry. I told him he looked very much like Sean Connery. “Oh no”, he said,
“I’m much more handsome!” (photos)

On Sunday, March 18th, Tom and Marie Curr and their family celebrated the 175th Anniversary of their ancestors’ arrival in America. James and Janet Curr of Lanark, Scotland underwent a 39-day North Atlantic winter crossing before arriving in New York in 1832.
George and Priscilla Campbell joined the party, and George presented a proclamation to the Curr Family, congratulating then on behalf of the New York Caledonian Club.

In Remembrance of Jim Campbell
When to the sessions of sweet silent thought
I summon up remembrance of things past,
I sigh the lack of many a thing I sought,
And with old woes new wail my dear time’s waste:
Then can I drown an eye, unused to flow,
For precious friends hid in death’s dateless night,
And weep afresh love’s long since cancell’d woe,
And moan the expense of many a vanish’d sight:
Then can I grieve at grievances foregone,
And heavily from woe to woe tell o’er
The sad account of fore-bemoaned moan,
Which I new pay as if not paid before.
But if the while I think on thee, dear friend,
All losses are restored and sorrows end.
