Chelsea Square is the name given to the Close of the General Theological Seminary (GTS), the oldest Seminary of the Episcopal Church. GTS was founded in 1817 and has held New York City landmark status since 1826. Victorian buildings surround the Close. The trees and lush lawn makes this an ideal setting for al fresco refreshments on a summer evening. The annual garden party is the largest gathering of British organizations in New York City. In the event of rain, the reception is held indoors.

The 2004 National Tartan Day was very well attended and a major success. We look forward to doing it all again in 2005. The next Tartan Day Parade will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2005. We are actively seeking corporate sponsors for the NTD-NY 2005 Parade.

For your reference, National Tartan Day is always April 6th in commemoration of the signing on that date of the Declaration of Abroath in 1320. The parade is also always on a Saturday.

The mission of National Tartan Day is to celebrate and educate about the historic and current contributions of Scots and those of Scottish descent to the world and in particular to America recognizing the longstanding ties between Scotland and the United States. The National Tartan Day parade in New York City is the anchor of the national day in the US to celebrate our heritage.

National Tartan Day in New York is lead by the Scottish-American community through the National Tartan Day - New York Committee with the assistance of The Saint Andrews Society of the State of New York, 1756, The New York Caledonian Club, 1856, and the American Scottish Foundation, 1956.

This year we were proud to have Edward V. Cattell, Jr., President of the Clan Campbell Society of North America, to march in the procession of a non-denominational church service sponsored by the Saint Andrew's Society of the Sate of New York held at Central Presbyterian Church preceding the parade. He later joined James R. Campbell, CCSNA Trustee, and former Chief of the New York Caledonian Club to carry the flag of Scotland and march with the Caledonian Club. In 2005, we hope that more Campbells will come to New York City and march in the national Tartan Day Parade. Special invitations will be extended to the board of directors and all members worldwide to visit New York in 2005 and show your clan's continuing support of Scotland.

Details about the 2005 celebration will be posted throughout the year on the website at: http://www.tartanweek.com. If you have any questions please feel free to email us at tartanweek@hotmail.com and/or call 212-980-0844. You may also e-mail jcampbell@campbellsnyc.org for additional information.

Please mark your calendar now, save the date, and plan to march with us in New York City on April 2, 2005!

The Round Hill Highland Games scheduled for July 3, 2004 were canceled. Athletics are an important part of the Games with men's heavy athletics, track and field, soccer, tug-of-war, and children's athletics.
